The trails are easy with the exception of Lykes Lookout which is slightly under 10 minutes of steep incline that leads to the summit where the view is wonderful! And clear water. The Hassayampa River Preserve is located on U.S. Highway 60, 3 miles southeast of Wickenburg near mile marker 114. $5 correct change or credit card. This trail system consists of multiple easy shaded hikes. Nice little hike up a rock side with great view. Very peaceful to watch the water babble and well shaded. The second problem was that the plank crossing the river (more of a creek, actually) was washed away by recent monsoons and will not be replaced until monsoon season is over. The paths around the preserve are so well kept and soft, your feet will thank you. The Hassayampa River Preserve is right off of the US-60, and there isn’t a lot of official signage on the road for it. Â Maricopa County Parks has a proven track record of managing conservation areas such as Spur Cross Ranch in Cave Creek and the Agua Fria Conservation Area and Morgan City Wash at Lake Pleasant.As part of a new partnership, The Nature Conservancy and Maricopa County’s Parks and Recreation Department will integrate the 770-acre preserve near Wickenburg as a component of the planned Vulture Mountains Recreation Area, a 71,000-acre regional recreational area west and south of the Hassayampa River Preserve.After more than a quarter of a century as a Nature Conservancy preserve, the Hassayampa River Preserve is about to start a new chapter.As part of the agreement, the Conservancy will retain ownership of most of the preserve but transfer ownership of its visitor center, a portion of the river channel and Palm Lake to the County. Trails are wide and well-maintained. I came here the day after an 8 mile hike and my feet felt great. very refreshing. hike through mesquite bush keeping you cool in the summer around the small lake/pond. Lovely, easy trails.Great trail! Very shaded. Additionally, the Conservancy will put a conservation easement on the property. Names of plants species and guided tours happen which make the place seem so much more interesting. The entire area is 3.2 miles. All are easy and well marked except for the Lyke's Lookout trail, which is moderate and takes you an elevation that overlooks the entire area. Pleasant change of scenery. Lots of shade.Maricopa County has the park back open again. One small out and a back leg of a trail climbs above the river bed.
